Art Reach of Mid-Michigan
Honor's Community Mural
In working with the Honor's class as the Art Education President, I helped the Honor's class design a triptych mural to represent the culture and community of Mount Pleasant, MI. The theme and title is "Think, Feel, Do." This theme is divided into three panels of how we think, how we feel and what we do in Mount Pleasant. The design is universal, diverse and all inclusive so that every person can identify themselves with at least one figure in the painting.
An official unveiling of the murals was done Spring 2017. A video of an interview at right of myself and a colleague Emilee Monville talking about the mural. Emilee is also an art educator currently. |
Start time at 16:55 ending at 25:26.

Painting Parties
I taught at Art Reach various painting parties including ornament painting on glass and hand-cut wood pieces. I broke down the classes into feasible steps under a time frame. Painting parties typically took 2-3 hours depending on the size of the project. Students did very well. The goal was for the participants to enjoy themselves making art stress-free as well as an art piece that they could own as each one was individualized to be personable. The Waterfall design served as a fundraiser for the NAEA Chapter at CMU to help with conference expenses. This prepared me as a future educator with how to teach step by step demonstrations that are easy to follow.
Mommy/Grandma and Me Diptych Painting party, Ornaments 3 ways, Waterfall Painting, Coffee Mugs were my designs. (Some pictured right) |

Second Sunday Crafts
On the Second Sunday at Art Reach, Parents and children are offered a free craft from 1:00-3:00pm. Kids of young ages and a guardian come in and make art together of a craft pre-selected for them. I selected crafts for Art Reach and taught some of these crafts on my own as well as with the National Art Education Association Chapter at CMU.
Crafts included tissue paper wreaths, bubble blowing butterflies, sock snowmen, etc. Each craft is worked under a low costing budget for materials. |

For a Leadership Studies internship in Fall 2017, I chose Art Reach of Mid-Michigan to spend my time with the non-profit controlling the education department in designing classes, projects and opportunities for the arts to be a part of Mount Pleasant, MI lifestyle. By contacting teachers and communicating efficiently, I impacted Art Reach to design a part-time job offer looking for someone to do what I had done in creating classes for the public. This project counted for course LDR 302 at Central Michigan University.
Campus Leadership
National Art Education Association
I served as President of the CMU NAEA Chapter for two years developing a school organization applying skills with Art Education Majors into the community as professional development. The organization was under reconstruction during my term as President as I revitalized the amount of involvement of future art educator's at CMU's campus to a high recognition.

National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS)
The major role I played with NSCS is the PACE Chair. Every year for three years I coordinated an event called March to College Day. March to College Day brings a class size of first generation 8th graders to campus to experience the life of a college student. The event is free of cost to the school and students. Lunch, t-shirts and goodie bags are supplied by the NSCS Chapter, which I found donors for.
I created the agenda, contacted transportation, found donations for lunch, and designed the t-shirts for the event. Students walked away from CMU gaining insight on how to be successful high school students in the coming years. Student Success coaches and college students were great mentors and leaders who inspire the eighth graders. ***In 2017, my chapter earned a Regional Award for a successful March to College Day Event that ended my term as PACE Chair. |

National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS)
Once a member of NSLS, you are a lifelong member. I served as Secretary for three years for Central Michigan University's NSLS Chapter. I kept documents organized and recorded every e-board meeting into a Word Document. Adopt-A-Highway, raking leaves for the elderly, fundraising for induction ceremonies are just a few of the activities that I did with NSLS for community service.

Vowles Elementary Mural
I had been reached out to by the OutReach Organization located on CMU's campus. Every public school spring break they refresh the paint on the walls for public schools. In 2017, they were asked to do Hungry Caterpillar mural. They wanted art experts to help them. I drew and designed the entire mural for the Vowles Cafeteria by myself and organized the color mixing for the group, by color coding areas for the volunteers.
It took a week to complete and some of the student reactions are pictured at right when they entered the cafeteria for the first time returning from spring break. The Very Hungry Caterpillar influences the students to learn counting, eat healthy, and be a beautiful butterfly as they grow academically. |
